We live close to the airport so when we were driving home last night we were able to see fighter jets sitting on the tarmac. The kids were so excited! We weren't the only ones checking them out -by the time we left a small crowd of people had gathered by the airport's fence to look.

AIRCRAFT FROM ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE MADE OVERNIGHT STOP
Nine F1-11 Fighter Bomber Jets from the Royal Australian Air Force fleet, made an overnight stop in American Samoa Tuesday evening and departed for Honolulu enroute to Alaska yesterday morning.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration's flight services information, the jets arrived at around 5 p.m. Tuesday. Some locals stopped by the airport area to check out the jets shortly after their arrival.
"They were just transiting from Australia and will be attending training exercises in Alaska," the FAA said yesterday.
Two fuel tankers also belonging to the Royal Australian Air Force, arrived later Tuesday evening.
The FAA said all 11 fighter jets will be participating in joint training exercises with the US Air Force in Alaska. The Australian fuel tankers will be used to re-fuel the jets mid-air during the training exercises.
Opps on Samoan News...those are F/A-18's. The same jets the Blue Angels fly.
We have a small air force base in our town, and you can frequently hear and see the fighter jets coming and going. One day, several years ago, I looked up to see a red colored jet flying overhead. I had never seen anything like this, and I wondered if we were being invaded by Russia. It turns out that the Czech government was conducting training exercises with us and had sent over some of their own planes.

Even though we figured out what was going on soon enough (it was on the news when we got home), it is a bit weird when you see things so out of the ordinary.
I am very amused that Samoa News was wrong on the type of jet they are. Amused, but not terribly surprised.
